There is a very interesting interview with Antonio Pappano in September issue of Gramphone. He recently recorded the Requiem by Verdi, a CD that will be released on September 7th with Anja Harteros, Sonia Ganassi, Rolando Villazon & Rene Pape, Orchestra e Coro dell’Accademia di Santa Cecilia. EMI launched a special microsite for this CD
He speaks a lot about the difficulties of this piece, how Verdi got to write it in the first place and how they all managed to record it.
.
Gramphone makes a top 5 must-have Pappano recordings. And 3 of these 5 involve Angela Gheorghiu and/or Roberto Alagna.
La Rondine - EMI 1997
Tosca - EMI 2001
Don Carlos - EMI 1997
.
I think there's something missing here, don't you think? It's the latest recording of Madama Butterfly. Well, maybe in the next interview with this great conductor. He returns to ROH for Tristan and Isolde, in October.
For further reading, Messa di Requiem is reviewd in several newspapers:
Sunday Times
Presto Classical
And if we're talking about Messa di Requiem by Verdi, Angela recorded this piece in 2001 with Berliner Philharmoniker conducted by Claudio Abbado under EMI. Also with Daniela Barcellona, Roberto Alagna and Julian Konstantinov.
On May 21st the DVD was also released.
