Enough China, back to Romania. The journey in Moldavia goes on. These next two parts are dedicated to Voronet Monastery, the most famous among the Moldavian monasteries. Because of the fresco on the walls it is also called the Sistine Chapel of the East. Why are all these beautiful churches in Moldavia? Because we had a ruler here in the 15th century called Stephen the Great. And he fought a lot with the Turks. After each battle he had a church built to thank God for his help. There are about 40 churches, but only some of them are famous.

Blue dominates on the frescoes of the outside wall. It's also called "blue of Voronet" and its exact composition was not discovered yet. In terms of painting, this is the most beautiful of all monasteries. In terms of location, my favorite is Sucevita (which will be presented later on). More about Voronet - HERE.
